3D Camera with 12,616 Lenses

Researchers to Develop 3D Camera with 12,616 Lenses for Super 3D Effect

U.S. Researchers at the Stanford University are working on a 3 Dimensional camera with 12,616 lenses having 3 megapixel units with a total of 2,229,696 sensors to create a sort of super 3D effect, this 3D camera will not be only taking the pictures but it will also be recording the distances of various parameters in the photograph. The new technology could find applications in areas like 3D printing and virtual games on the internet.

By the use of this technology the photographs taken will be in proper focus and the details will be very high. If you had to point such a 3D camera at someone’s face, it would not only take a photo of that person, but also record the distances to the subject’s eyes, nose ears, chin and such like.

The group of researchers led by Professor Abbas El Gamal, plan to integrate a tiny lens on each array of 16×16 pixels (256 pixels) which would then result in a total of 12,616 lenses.

“It’s like having a lot of cameras on a single chip,” said Keith Fife, a graduate student working with El Gamal.

Here comes the interesting part the researchers working on the Camera technology said that this 3D digital camera may cost less than our existing digital cameras.

India's Videocon Eyes Motorola's Phone

Videocon Industries, a large Indian vendor of consumer electronics equipment and home appliances, has expressed an interest in bidding for Motorola's mobile handset business.

The Videocon board is meeting Wednesday to discuss its acquisition strategy, an informed source said.
Videocon is interested in buying Motorola's handset business and hopes to sell the mobile phones through its consumer durables retail chain in India, Videocon Group chairman Venugopal Dhoot told Indian newspapers on Wednesday.
The company also plans to enter the mobile services market in India, building its own GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) network.

There's still room for growth in the Indian mobile market, which has been adding more than 8 million mobile subscribers a month. The total number of mobile subscribers in the country was 251 million at the end of February, according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in Delhi.

Motorola will split into two companies, one making mobile devices and the other making network infrastructure, the company announced last month. After the split, which is expected to happen next year, the companies will operate separately and be publicly traded, Motorola said.

Videocon could transfer Motorola's manufacturing facility to India to take advantage of India's lower costs, Dhoot told the Business Standard.
Indian companies that were initially focused on the domestic market have recently shown interest in buying companies that help them acquire new brands and markets abroad.
